ART STATEMENT

FLESH & SOUL

James Su's absurd surrealist creations express the artist's anxieties, unveiling a realm repulsive. The dangerous convergence of advancing technology and insatiable greed creates an existential threat to humanity. Unbridled desire steers technology away from its intended purpose, leading to runaway development that caters to humanity's pathological craving for consumption.
Su's artwork highlights the visceral nature of flesh – the tangible core of human existence – in a frenzy of unchecked desire, power, wealth, and authority. Under these conditions, society metamorphoses into a breeding ground for violence, corruption, arrogance, debauchery, and oppression. Su's work stands as a poignant reflection on the consequences of unfettered technological progress and unrestrained avarice.

BIRD MAN

Birds are nature’s spirit made visible—fragile, fierce, and endlessly expressive. In their wings, I see stories: of solitude, of flight, of survival. Each species, with its unique shape and song, echoes the diversity of human character and society.
Drawing from surrealism and abstract expressionism, I use birds as metaphors to explore our emotional terrain: joy and grief, rage and tenderness, truth and illusion. My brush seeks not only to depict, but to unveil—the hidden harmonies and tensions between the human and the wild.
Through my work, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and listen—to both the world around them and the one within. To see birds not just as creatures, but as messengers—reminding us of the mystery, resilience, and reverence that still pulse in nature and ourselves.
